As part of a comprehensive rewrite plan to eliminate data processing delays and failures, our client needed to move data from a legacy data processing and warehousing platform to a more efficient and modern data platform.
The data processing pipeline for this medical information technology company was lengthy, taking 3-4 hours to reprocess a month’s worth of data. They required the ability to re-process 24 months of data nightly to pick up retroactive data points. Additionally, failures were difficult to track down and recover from.
They engaged InfoWorks to lead them through a system assessment in order to understand the current environment’s business logic, creating, validating, and then executing the integration plan.
We began by reviewing and thoroughly documenting their existing SSIS processes. With a keen understanding of existing processes, challenges, strengths, and future goals, we provided recommendations for processing and translating data from SSIS into our recommended data warehouse, Databricks.
Our team assisted with implementing new approaches for capturing data points and provided ETL logic to process the data in a more comprehensive and compact data structure. We worked alongside our client throughout the project to ensure the new technologies were understood and implemented in the most optimal way.
With data being consolidated into a singular, modern, and optimized data platform, our client realized a 500% reduction in processing time. They are able to easily re-process the required nightly data with significantly fewer errors. If errors do occur, they are now able to track and amend them.
