E-commerce: Order Entry and Fulfillment Business Process Analysis and Automation

Project Overview

InfoWorks led a core team of users to define and map the current order entry and fulfillment process. During this mapping session, the team identified areas where the process could be improved and standardized. The team also defined and deployed best practices as they related to the new order entry process. Following the completion of the process standardization, we designed a Lotus Notes-based application that supports the new process. Key features of the system include interfaces to multiple legacy systems for customer information and order information as well as a single point of entry for users to access the multiple database system and render more accurate and complete project information. Responsibilities of the team included

  • Establishing forms and views that supported the standardized process flow of the order life cycle
  • Enabling the tracking and trending of specific areas within the order entry and fulfillment process
  • Increasing the visibility of order status throughout the organization
  • Clarifying the roles and responsibilities associated with the process
  • Providing the means to reduce the number of accounts receivable days associated with the order
